Bar. Edward Obioha

Global Secretaryand DirectorLegal – DFWA

He is a legal practitioner for over 19 years having been called to the roll of Solicitors of the supreme court of England and Wales in 2003. In the course of his practice, he has come across young people arrested on daily basis for crimes that ought not have been convicted but for alcohol and drug abuse or misuse.

Needless to say, that he had handled domestic violence casesas a result of drug abuse and had counselled many youths out of drug taking and today, they are useful members of the society.

He was a local government chairman of Orlu LGA in Imo State, Nigeria between 2010 and 2011, and worked hard to resolve many issues which centered on drug and alcohol abuse by youths. He visited over 110 rural communities in Orlu Local government Area and its’ environ which was dominated by issues of drug and alcohol misuse by youths and its attendant criminality.

Through the above work he had become aware of the heinous atrocity, rape on children and frequent violence all due to drug misuse and influences, as a result he is so passionate about the work of DFWA in her campaign to push for government intervention around laws and policy on drug usage/misuse and further champion drug education for the youths, community training and raising awareness.

The fourth of four children, he grew up in Nigeria. He received a bachelor’s degree in education and economics from the famous University of Nigeria, Nsukka and later proceeded to the University of North London where he obtained undergraduate and master’s degrees in law and currently practicing as a solicitor at A Vincent Solicitors Ltd in Woolwich, London.

Edward lives with his wife and four children in central London, United Kingdom.
